The Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) is a nationally recognised entry point into surf lifesaving. It’s built for younger members who want to start patrolling, giving you the surf awareness, rescue skills, and resuscitation knowledge to take part in lifesaving operations.

You’ll learn the basics of water safety, hazard awareness, and surf conditions, plus practical rescue techniques like wading, using rescue tubes, and performing simple rescues in a controlled setting.

SRC is the natural first step toward your Bronze Medallion and other higher qualifications. Once you’ve got it, you can patrol at Portsea Back Beach as part of a club patrol.
