WHAT YOUR SUPPORT FUNDS
The PSLSC Primary School Beach Education Program teaches primary students across the Mornington Peninsula how to stay safe in open water. As an accredited Life Saving Victoria partner, Portsea SLSC delivers hands-on four-hour sessions that combine skill-building with fun, interactive games, led by lifesavers chosen for their knowledge, energy and ability to connect with young students.
The biggest barrier for schools is cost. Each session runs to around $50 per student, before transport, which puts it out of reach for many school budgets. Your contribution bridges that gap.
Why it matters:
Almost every year, someone drowns on the Peninsula, and Life Saving Victoria data shows that in 96% of cases it’s a local. Warning signs alone aren’t enough, and standard swimming lessons don’t prepare children for the unique challenges of open water. Education does.
The program teaches students to:
- Recognise potential dangers in open water
- Stay safe if a boat capsizes
- Use a boogie board correctly
- Perform rescues using everyday items
- Identify when someone needs CPR
Thank you for helping keep our community safe.
